My new home.

I am calling it the hundred acre woods.
What do you think?
Should I paint over the forest?
Or embrace it with some fur and maybe a deer head?

Comics.

So, I am applying to live in the student Co-Ops on campus for next year...
(Wish me luck! ...on what I don't know...)
There are three houses on campus and that's pretttyyy much all I know.
Except for the fact that their rent (including food) is 300 dollars a month.
...
Sold.
Well, their application is really impressive in itself.
Along with the question:
"If you could fly a winged unicorn anywhere, real or otherwise, where would it be and why?
Please describe in detail"
( I did a Harry Potter reference of course)
They also have section for an Autobiographical Statement.
Which can be an essay... song... poem... drawing.
Well, I got inspired to do a comic.

Yeah, I know. How can they turn me away now?

Well, as you may know, I have dabbled in many of the artesy fartsey things in this world...
book making, collages, melting crayon art... you name it.
But, Comics are not something I have dabbled in before.
And I wasn't sure about my comic making abilities.
(But here's the thing, I have gone on a HUGE Heroes binge and started watching them via netflix)
And there are LOTS of comics in that thing.
(along with super heroes all trying to save the world)
Save the Cheerleader, save the world... You know?
...
Anyway.
It got me thinking... well, couldn't IIIII do that???
Well, yes. As it turns out, I can.
Here it is.

Felt Project! A Crafting Day.

The other day I made new felt covers for our storage space. It was one of my Dads Christmas presents and it turned out really well. It took about two days. One to design and cut the fabric and the other day to glue and put the pieces up. I really like the way that it looks up there, I am sure it will get just as gross and dusty as the other ones (which had been up for at least four years) in a short while, but as of now, it reminds me of a window-- looking out into the Capay Valley.

The Solstice Party.

Ahhhh the winter solstice.
I got a little drunk. Laughed, caroled, made new friends, arts and crafted it UP and danced around a bon-fire as old man winter got burned.
Over all, it was a VERY successful Solstice (Festival) again this year.
Over seventy people showed up for general merrymaking.
I loved it.
I stargazed with a boy, (Unfortunately did NOT get kissed under the mistletoe...) talked about the future, caught up with old friends and cradled a wine bottle as though it was a baby.
SO happy with how the night turned out, even if my head hurt a little this morning.
Some pictures you may ask?
Well of course!
ready for the party to begin!

Sausage making!

Over enthusiastic on the meat.

YUM!

My brother being gross.

Arts and Crafts!

How the night ended...

Best of friends.

<3

My arts and crafts improved as the night went on as you can see...

Crafting day.

My sister and I are having a serious crafting day. I am taking a break to put up pictures of our first project. I got this idea from (one guess?) Pintrest. I LOVED how it turned out. Super easy to make, super fun and the blow dryer keeps you warm. It is a win-win-win situation. Here are some pictures from our first project!
Melted Crayon Art.

The finished products!

My dog Mister LOVED the heat from the blow dryer.

You will need: Crayons, Crazy Glue and canvas.

Decorating the Tree

My family has so many ridiculously wonderful traditions.
I love the fact that my mom and dad started traditions so long ago that they are ingrained in our brains as normal. Like jumping on my mom and dad's bed on Easter. All being scared by my oldest brother as he runs and jumps on the bed last. Or decorating the Christmas tree with homemade ornaments and then singing Christmas carols around the tree. Or writing letters to Santa each year and then burning them in the fireplace so that the ashes get carried up to the North Pole. ( I really wish we had kept those letters, there were some GREAT ones over the years.) I can't wait to start traditions with my own family one day. But as of now, I still love being the youngest and to be treated like the baby. Especially when it comes to present giving. My siblings and I have this competition we like to call-- "the Golden Year" If it is one persons "Golden Year" it means they received the most presents under the tree. We all LOVE to claim that it is going to be our Golden Year... but let's be honest. Each year it's my mom. She gets kitchen cutlery up the wazzoooo.
Here are some pictures of our wonderful night decorating the tree and singing loudly and obnoxiously.

It is a WONDERFUL tree we have. Don't you think?

Waldorf Window Stars.

My roommate's gone for the weekend. To keep my mind off how much I miss her, I have made myself into the next Martha Stuart. Seriously. The amount of arts and crafts that I have done in the last 24 hours would make her jealous. In the last care package that I got from home, my mom sent me glassy paper that is used to make window stars. So, in an act of lonesomeness, I set out to make our window the most colorful one on campus. Come back roommate- it's getting bad.

Pinwheels

For my brothers upcoming wedding we have been plenty busy with arts and crafts. And I (being the artsy one in the family) have been helping to make all sorts of fun projects. Number one on the list... Pinwheels! I am obsessed! They are fun, colorful and easy to make. You can use them for all sorts of things, we are going to use them to line the walk-way where the guests make their way to the reception. But we had an idea to fill a vase with them, instead of flowers, or somehow make them to go in your hair!  If you are feeling creative, or a little bored all you will need is...
1. Paper (We used scrap-booking paper.)
2. Scissors
3. A push-pin
4. A wooden dowel
5. Creativity and a little arm strength

Fold into halves diagonal.

Cut about 2/3 of the way down along each of the creases

take every other point and poke it onto the pin

once you have all of the points attached stick the push pin through the back of the paper at the center.

then, use that arm strength, and push the final product onto a dowel

finished!
Just one of the many colorful projects we finished!
