Thank You For the Comment and Keep Reading!

-->
Hello EVERYONE!

Recently, as you may have noticed, I have not been very constant in my blog writing. I instead, have been busy traveling, learning, laughing and growing. (Literally, as I live on a farm.)
I have so much to update everyone on, even those who know me the best don’t know me much at all at the moment... Seeing as how I am spending the majority of my time playing capture the flag and milking cows with campers ages 7 to 12.
This summer, like the last 10 summers, I am working at Camp Full Belly Farm.
(Located, very conveniently, right outside my house.)  Already, I have gotten to know almost 120 different campers all with different personalities, quirks and talents.
I love this job.
It makes me yearn for sleep more than I have ever in my whole life. It also reminds me how fortunate I am to grow up with a 250-acre back yard.
I am pretty dang lucky.

So, this summer, along with getting back from my trip across the globe, I am being reminded of those things I hold most dear. Dogs, stars, friendships that are as strong as the muscles I am getting from pulling campers up the creek… and life.

Recently, I had a most passionate reader comment on my blog reminding me that I should tell the truth about who I am as an individual. Well here it goes:
This summer I feel strong. I feel cared for by my friends and family. I feel capable of leading 56 campers in rhythms and games and farming activities with enthusiasm and love. I feel confident that I can get on a train or plane ANYWHERE and figure it out by myself. I feel confident that I am beautiful, on the inside and the out. And NO words, however hurtful, and NO person, no matter how hateful, will make me think less of myself.

This year has been a time FULL of tremendous growth for me. I have learned how to stand on my own two feet. I have learned that getting lost can be fun, because you get to experience the journey of finding your way back. I learned that I can live through earthquakes, hate mail, heartbreak and tears. I learned that although I am the baby, that doesn't mean I need to count on anyone else to live my life.
So readers… ALL readers, “thanks for the comment and keep reading!”
Because BOY do I have a lot to tell YOU!

These pictures remind me of the STRENGTH that I felt on my trip and the strength that I now know I have.

My Old Room

I am home for one week.
I have pictures to upload from my trip home with my mom and sister and my crazy packing experience...
I have SO much to do in this one week before Australia.
SO MUCH.
But right now?
I am sitting at my dad's computer searching through old pictures from my high school years.
One thing that I came across was this bad haircut:
Taken on photobooth of course. Push up bra and all. Classy Hannah. Classy.
Another gem I came across was my old bedroom.
I have NO idea how I convinced my mom and dad to let me do this to my room in high school...
But somehow I did.
And looking at the writing NOW brings back some memories that are almost as bad as my old hair cut.

Thank goodness I have a little better sense about these things now...
A little.

It's also
A good thing I was so pretty back then.
Yeah.
These old pictures are PURE GOLD.

Uggh.
Bye.
I'm off to delete these pictures so they will NEVER be used for blackmail.

Things I've Learned from Having Farm Animals.

When you have 300 acres as your back yard you learn a lot of things.
When you have four siblings you learn a good amount...
But,
When you have 250 sheep you learn even more.

The title of this blog sums up what I want to talk about today and that, my dear readers, is the life experiences and well-learned lessons that I have received by simply having animals prevalent in my (already crazy) childhood.

When I tell people that I live on a farm, I usually get one of two questions first:
1. "What do you grow on your farm?"
2. "So, do you guys have animals too?"

The first question is actually not as simple as it seems, seeing as how the majority of people that go to college here don't even know what a rutabaga is, nor care to... and saying that 'we are a diversified farm that grows over 80 different varieties of fruits and vegetables' usually just gets greeted with more questions or blank stares. So, I usually just end up saying. 'Well, we grow a lot of things, watermelons and tomatoes and corn and such.'
Yeah. I know. Not the best answer in the world but it's really all the same to the questioners.

The second question is actually a funny one.
Mostly, I have come to the conclusion that students believe that by living on a farm means that you have three types of animals. Cows, chickens and horses.
But, for some odd reason, people always ask me about the horses first. Which, leads me to have to say: "No, our only horse died a while ago." (Yeah, I know, not the best icebreaker in the world.) They feel bad, I feel... Well, not bad because I hate horses anyway. Yeah. I know. Its a strange thing to hate. But, they are big, mean and I am pretty sure could kill me in a second. I'll stick with docile cows, thanks.

Anyway...
What I love to do is list off numbers. That way, the questioners know that our farm isn't just some "hobby" farm that dicks around. We don't dick around. Ever.
I start by listing off the number of animals that we have.
(Now, I'll admit, I don' know the exact number right now because I haven't been home in a while.. but it's something like...)
5 Dogs.
4 Pigs
8 cows.
15 goats.
200 Sheeps.
1000 Chickens...
You get the point. By the time that I state the number of sheep their eyes get wide and start exclaiming and swearing. Yeah. I told you fools. We don't dick around.

Living on a farm you grow accustomed to different set of chores. Instead of (or besides) cleaning the windows, you take compost to the chickens.
Which, by the way is one of the most horrible jobs in the world.
It actually has been deemed that title by the institute of farmers children.
I mean, besides the heavy and stinky compost bucket that you must carry across the yard.
There's the total ick factor of compost back-splash as you turn the bucket over to the hungry mungry chickens.
 Yeah. It's sick.
I am going to do this in the only way I know how to write these days....
Lists.
I write so many lists it's really unnecessary.
I make sub-lists of my to-do lists. I make to do lists of my to do lists. But, my unorganized brain somehow basks in the neatness of lists, so here's another one for ya'.

Things That I've Learned from Having Farm Animals.
I grew up around crowing roosters, snorting pigs, bully billy goats and the smallest brained sheep you will ever meet. They have taught me many things.

1. Goats are out to get you. Always.
Okay, the truth is, I only say this because I have been head butted by a goat and it is one of the LEAST fun things in the world. My friends would actually tell you differently, one of my best friends actually had two goats that she would put on leashes and take for runs... That is, until they got too big for her and started dragging her behind them. True Story. The time I got head-butted is not as fun of a story to tell, I was moving the goats to a new pasture, they hated me for that. I bent down to pick something up off the ground and a billy goat ran full sprint at the back of my head and knocked me out cold. I hate billy goats. They are mean and grumpy and smelly and foul. Baby goats are the only ones that I can handle.

2. When collecting eggs. Always wear protection.
I mean gloves of course. But for real. Bring a stick, or an extra egg carton or an unsuspecting camper that will willingly stick their small hands into a nesting box for the whole "farming experience"... Really anything that will lesson the pecks given out by moody mother hens.

3. Baby pigs are cute. But then they get ugly and fat and mean...
The good news is that eating them is an option. So I'm not too worried about it. I love pigs. They are delicious. :)

4. It's the circle of life yo.
Some people get freaked out about the fact that I have witnessed the slaughtering of hundreds of animals. And yes, when I walk outside and see a mountain of sheep heads and guts it can be a little overwhelming and unexpected. Not to mention when I go into a cooler looking for food and get shocked to DEATH when I see a hanging pig corpse. But, I have grown up with it. I know that the animals on my farm have had a pretty amazing life. I know that we use almost all of the parts of the animals that we kill and that those animals will serve as our delightful dinner. I have lived and grown up around deaths, loss, babies and poop and I know it all connects. It's the circle of life and if you have a problem with it, you shouldn't be eating nameless meat. Sassyness. I know.

5. Animals are a HUGE responsibility.
I guess that I learned this the most with cows. My mom has milked a cow non-stop every day, twice a day for the last 25? years of her life. There are no days off, there are no... "It's too cold" or "I don't feel like it right now." The animals are expecting you to care for them. To protect them. To love them. This is why the only pet I plan on having for the next couple years is a fish.

6. Naming animals is fun.
We have named many a bummer sheep. Once, we named one Carmen Electra, because she was born on an electric fence. (She walked backwards for the majority of her life) We named another one Fish because it was born in a water bucket. We named another one Aurora Frankenstein. She died.

7. Cows have one udder and four teats
You would be surprised how many people don't know that.
 For those people:
Did you also know that milk comes out warm?
And frothy?
And delicious?
And that milk you get from the store?
Well, to be honest, it has no flavor.

8. Animals always give birth on the coldest, rainiest, moon-shiniest nights.
Yeah, I guess that it has to with their birthing cycle and all that... but really? I think they like to mess with the farmers sleeping pattern.

9. Wild pigs are smarter than they let on.
Did you know that they will not eat, or go near eggplants or tomatoes because they are in the nightshade family (The botanical name of which is Solanaceae. BAM just dropped some knowledge on your brains)?? They just KNOW! It's crazy the kind of instincts that animals are born with.

And

10. Dogs will always be the favorite animal on the farm.
I work at a summer camp and have lead MANY student group tours... EVERY time the kids leave loving our dogs Mister and Salsa the best. Every time.

Things I've Learned From My Siblings.

I have two older brothers and one older sister. (Two if you include my brothers wife, which I do.)
Wanna meet them?
Meet Hallie
Meet Rye
Yup.
I am the youngest.
The baby.
(Although I did have a dream that my mom was pregnant again. Haha Yeah, that's soooo not happening. Everyone knows parents don't have sex after a certain age... RIGHT?)

Anyway... Yeah. I am the baby.
I am pretty sure I am permanently 12 in most of my family members eyes.
Forever burned in to their mind as a scrawny girl... hair parted down the middle with gap-teeth, acne and braces.
Cool.
It's really okay though, I wouldn't have it any other way most of the time.
My siblings are awesome.
They rock at just being alive.
They have taught me a lot about the world.
Including but not limited to:

1. BBQ sauce makes anything taste better. ANYTHING.

2. Never keep a diary around the house.

3. Never try to have your own pet. Especially a cat.

4. You can quote any movie anytime. It always applies. It is always relevant.

5.  If you are ever looking for the T.V. cord DO NOT look in mom and dad's closet.

6. Musical instruments are the best form of torture.

7. If you say "Please" before you stay stop they are actually more likely to stop. Who knew?

8. Pinning someone down and letting Mister (our dog) lick their face NEVER gets old.

9. Pretending you are dead/dying also never gets old.

10. You can convince anyone of ANYTHING if you try hard enough.

11. It is never going to be your Golden Year at Christmas.
It is always moms Golden Year at Christmas.
No matter who tells you it's going to be your Golden Year.
Never.

12. Following Dad around is the best way to find candy at Easter.
He somehow always know where the Easter bunny laid an egg.
YOU SNEEAAAKKKYYY DAD!!
13. Dancing while cleaning up the kitchen makes the job go by ten times as fast.

14. Cleaning the Bathroom is the best chore to sign up for because it is relatively small compared to the rest of the house.

15. If you talk to dad at the kitchen table long enough after dinner sometimes you can find yourself with out any chores left.

16. The 2 minute walk to take the compost to the chickens could very well be the longest walk in the world.

17. Always go shopping with dad two days before Christmas. It's when he's feeling the most generous.

18. If you EVER need to get on mom's good side clean the pantry or the fridge.
 Or promise Grandchildren.
19. Don't ever get a tattoo. And if you do? Repeat #18 for the rest of your life.

20. Always ask dad to write down his to-do list... or else you are bound to forget at least 12 things.

Yeah, we're suuuupppperrrr fun.

A Moment of Happiness

There is a lot of bad in the world.
So why not share some good?

FIVE GOOD THINGS THAT HAPPENED TODAY.
(Because everyone could do with some more lists in their lives)

1. Today, I realized that the guy who always comes into my math class early and sits right next to me and smiles and blares his music ridiculously loud is actually really nice.
His name is Rasahn and he hates math just as much as I do. He also thinks I am a good drawer and plans on studying business. He is a good guy. He just listens to lousy music.

2. Today I got my math midterm back. I GOT AN 86!!!
I am very proud of myself and of the fact that I may just pass my math class this term!

3. Love.
Currently from where I sit, I can see a boy cuddling in a chair with his girlfriend/lover.
They look really happy and although it makes me very uncomfortable seeing so much P.D.A, you gotta give it to them, they are cozy by a fire and I am sitting by myself writing a blog.
Who's the winner in this situation called life?

4. The fact that I am going to the beach with the NonBoyfriendBoyFriend this weekend to celebrate Valentines day.
TAKE THAT LOVE BIRDS!
(pictures to come of course)

5. Five Dollar Footlongs.
That is a lot of sandwich for only five dollars.

and a happy picture just because?

This is what I got from my family last year for my birthday.  It made me sooooo happy!!!

What Makes A Good Blog?

I have been obsessing over my usual blogs this week and wondering what makes a good blog good.
it took me a while, but I finally found the recipe for a
wonderful-fantastical-read-every-day-I-want-to-be-just-like-you blog.
Or at least for me.

Here it is the HOW TO on all things blogs: What you will need to write a successful blog.
By Hannah Muller.

1. Babies.
Babies are cute. Babies do cute things. Babies do a thousand cute and horrible things a day so there is always something to write about. Babies are chubby and don't mind if you take their picture. Because of the small problems and fact that I don't currently have a baby.. and don't plan on pushing one out of my vag (see old post) anytime soon, I think my only hope is to steal one.

2. Harry Potter References
Everyone loves a good HP reference, anddd the fans of Harry Potter are wild and crazy. So, just add in a few key words that Harry Potter fans search in their google search engine and you will be golden on readers and they will keep coming back for more.

3. Romance.
Everyone likes a good love story. If you have one to share, share it. If not... make one up.

4. Wit.
As my roommate likes to say, good wit is hard to come by these days.
If you can write a blog in a short and snappy way that makes people ponder their lives as well as pee their pants because they are laughing so hard... You are doing well my friend keep it up.

5. Fashion.
Okay, okay, so this isn't for everrryyy blog but the blogs that I like to read have some pretty fun lookin outfits and wonderfully dressed ladies. I have attempted this a few times... all with horrible endings.

6. Short and to the point.
No one likes to read essays. Especially when they aren't funny, but even the funniest of essays drag on after a while. Keep it snappy, even if you have a whole lot more to say on the matter... truth is? No one really cares.
7. Pictures.
Pictures are a serious must. A lot of pictures. Fun pictures that have to do with your life. Pictures, pictures, pictures. Upload. Now.

8. Some sort of theme that ties the whole thing together.
It's not enough just to write about your life. Anyone can do that. So not everyone is going to read it. I still haven't really gotten the hang of it, but my Day-sperations have helped. And keeping the focus on things you know well. For me it's farming. And complaining.

9. Details.
If you are going to talk about your life (which you should all do) Be detailed. Tell stories. Tell secrets. It bonds the readers to you. No one wants to sit through a boring overview of what happened to you today... except maybe your boyfriend (see # 3) So make it interesting. If nothing fun happened to you that day, talk about a time in your life when something fun DID happen. Use descriptive words and images to make the reader feel like they were right there with you.
10. A good blog lay out.
I am still experimenting with mine, continuing to change parts that seem too wacky, colors, blog titles and such. I have been on MANY blogs where the layout was extremely confusing so I didn't feel like reading further. Make sure it catches the eye and still stays true to you!

Well future or current bloggers...
Good luck!
It's such a fun feeling when you see your viewers numbers start to climb...
I can not wait to continue blogging!
It's something I look forward to each day!

Things I Can't Stand.

I am a pretty tolerable person.
To an extent.
Then, if you screw up anything I'll hate your guts.

Okay not really.
But, some things just annoy me to the point that I actually do think of doing a hair-pulling-kick-your-teeth-out-come-any-closer-bozo-I'll-use-your-baby-maker-as-a-punching-bag maneuver that would bring even the kindest of people to their knees.

I think I may be in a grumpy mood.
Well, you know what they say?
Cool off and write a blog about it.

I am very much aware of the fact that... no one I know says this.

Whatever.
Here it is, a list of things that piss me off on the regular.

1. When guys refer to a girls period as her "issue" "that time of the month" "problem" "it" or any other hateful phrase.
Yes, I understand it's not the cutest thing, but grow up, it shouldn't be that hard to come to terms with.

2. When girls randomly give you the stink eye at a party
Uh, bitch, I don't know you but you should know that I'm not trying to sleep with your Fratty boys so continue your prowl and back the heck up.

3. When people interrupt my movie by talking or by chewing so loud I can't hear the words.
Really? You're going to interrupt me? NOW? Just shut the F* up and watch Ryan Gosling get his mack on. Damn boy.

4. Bejeweled butt pockets on bell-bottoms. Or any pants for that matter.
Yeah 'cause those look fancy? No, they make your butt look like a prostitute.

5. Guys that talk in a gangster voice when they are some of the whitest kids you know.
Seriously? You come from the suburbs. Your parents take you to church every Sunday.
So I aint' trynna' hear you talk 'bout livin' in 'da Ghetto.

6. People that get (actually)  pissed when you don't text them back.
No, I don't hate you, I just left my phone in my *Unbejeweled* pants pocket because I hate having to answer silly little questions like "yo, what up?"

7. People who are less competitive than me, but are better at sports/games than me.
Seriously God? Give the talent to someone who will use it for evil instead of sweetness. Then I'll kick their ass and make them cry. Everyone wins.

8. When girls drink flavored vodka.
Lemon flavored? Really? Have some class.

9. Anybody who acts like they know anything about farming. (Who is not a farmer.)
I am NOT AT ALL saying I know anything about farming, but people who start shoutin' out facts like they know their shit when the closest they've ever been to a farm is through meat they order at McDonald... than this girls got a problem.

10. And the big-y. Girls who wear NOTHING out on the weekends.
It is seriously 30 degrees out, your legs look like a turkey that was freshly plucked and you think you look cute?? Just, stop. Go back home, rethink the skirt and put on some sneakers, because we both know you are going to lose those shoes drinking too much flavored vodka tonight anyway.

I know I sound like a bitch. But that's only because I am acting like a total bitch.
(name that movie guys...)

I really DO love girls most of them are sane and kind and nice, but there's the occasional rotten egg that makes my nose scrunch up in disgust.

Okay, I need some sleep. I promise I will be in a happier and more kind mood tomorrow.

p.s. the movie's Mean Girls if you didn't get it.

Things that are awkward.

I am dedicating this post to things that are awkward in my life right now. Because there are (is?) a lot these days. Might as well own up to them now. As awkward as they are to talk about they are harder to ignore.

1. The fact that I might have to go get a slip that says I have a disability so I can take my math tests in the testing center. Or maybe it's the fact that I might actually have a math test disability that's awkward. Who the fuck has a math test disability?? (besides me) Awkward/I wonder if I could get free passes to the front of lines at amusement parks and good parking spots at Walmart.

2. The dinosaur arm. (When you are snuggling with someone and one of your arm is in an awkward position under you. What are you supposed to do with that thing??)

3. When you find yourself in your MIP diversion class with one of your FIG students. Good bonding/ SUPER awkward situation.

4. The first time you fart in front of the person you are dating. Confess or impress? That is the question. AWKWARD!

5. Poking wars on Facebook. Does anyone actually get a kick out of poke wars? What does it even mean?/stop poking me sir... it hurts. This back and forth thing we've got going on is just plain awkward.

6. When an acorn lands on your head on the way to class. No one sees it, you feel it, you cuss and yell. People think you are crazy. Shit's awkward.

7. When you dream dirty things about someone and then see them soon after.
(Ummmm is it just mean or is hot in here??/I really hope that they can't read my mind) Well, this is awkward.

8. Going shopping with someone who isn't buying anything, and you end up buying a lot, and then you look like a fat ass/rich bastard for buying anything. Gosh. So AWKWARD. Stop judging me!!

9. When you lift your arms up after winning a game of beer pong and realize that you forgot to wear deodorant for your night out. Winning/losing.
