Eating local.
A Poem
(sort of)
Define Local:
Local.
To me it’s always been to easy.
Eating food from a hundred mile radius?
Maybe for some…
But
For me it it was something different entirely.
Define Local:
Local.
To me it’s always been to easy.
Eating food from a hundred mile radius?
Maybe for some…
But
For me it it was something different entirely.
Local was about eating from one of the farms in my valley,
That way, not only would I know that it was local,
But I would know that it was grown well,
The workers were treated fairly
And the farmers lead good lives.
Eating local was more than about eating local food.
It was about supporting a local economy...
But I would know that it was grown well,
The workers were treated fairly
And the farmers lead good lives.
Eating local was more than about eating local food.
It was about supporting a local economy...
My family,
Making smart decisions about what I was putting in my body,
and
Putting those who I loved first.
Now that I live far away from my family’s farm,
The ideas I had around eating local food are beginning to slip.
Paying for enough food is becoming my first priority.
Convenience is beginning to trump sustainability.
And
It breaks my heart.
Food is becoming yet another thing that I treat with a rushed attitude.
'There is no time to go to the farmers market!'
I tell myself.
'Does it really matter if this apple isn’t local?'
I ask myself.
Will it really make a difference?
This one bite?
Does it really matter
'Does it really matter if this apple isn’t local?'
I ask myself.
Will it really make a difference?
This one bite?
Does it really matter
If I go for
One meal?
One day?
One week?
One week?
One year?
Without thinking about the location my food was grown?
My friends do it all the time!
They buy bananas with out a care!
The munch on strawberries when they want,
Without thinking about the location my food was grown?
My friends do it all the time!
They buy bananas with out a care!
The munch on strawberries when they want,
Not a fear in their mind about pesticides.
Or the fact that they are out of season.
So, why must I be burdened with the idea
So, why must I be burdened with the idea
That everything I eat is somehow connected
To a bigger picture?
That what I eat is
Somehow going to matter?
But then I remember…
The difference is I KNOW the difference.
I know it does matter.
Every bite matters.
And
I couldn’t truly stop caring if I tried.
The fact that I can’t get a bowl of rice and chicken from Panda Express without wanting to cry…
Makes me realize I will always have a different connection with my food than most of the world.
I know a different way.
I know that it is possible if I try hard enough.
If I care enough.
So, that is my new goal.
Local.
From farms that I know.
Local.
Supporting a local restaurant, grower or baker.
Local.
Where I can feel safe and good about the food that I put in my body.
That is my new definition of local.
And it is one that I hope that I can continue to live by.
The fact that I can’t get a bowl of rice and chicken from Panda Express without wanting to cry…
Makes me realize I will always have a different connection with my food than most of the world.
I know a different way.
I know that it is possible if I try hard enough.
If I care enough.

Marry Me.
As you all should know by now, I am obsessed with weddings.
But, the sad thing is... being obsessed with weddings is not really socially acceptable when you aren't even dating anyone.
I know.
Strange.
I have come to this conclusion by the awkward look I get when I am talking to a boy and I somehow end up blurting out that I am obsessed with weddings.
I think that they end up getting the wrong impression.
Like, I'm one of those crazy ladies who start planning the wedding as soon as she meets a boy...
Well, I'm not like that.... really!
I swear.
I am more the kind of girl who plans other peoples weddings.
Or, dreams about weddings...
Or, will spend hours on end looking up wedding sites and ideas on the interweb because they are pretty.
Or, the kind of of girl who will cry at the simplest wedding videos...
Or, the kind of of girl who will cry at the simplest wedding videos...
Or, the kind of girl who has been planning her wedding since she was five.
The whole obsession thing is weird, seeing how I am not in any hurry to find "the one" and I often have a hard time believing in happy endings.
Yet, here I am... a college educated feminist with a sweet tooth for weddings and babies.
WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME, GUYS??
Well, until I figure out the answer to that...
I have a fever and the only cure is more cow bell...
(Or weddings)
For your listening pleasure:
For your eyes:
Gosh, I'm strange.
Welp, off to find my future husband....
Bye.

I couldn't wait. Tattoo redone.
Sorry, for all of these annoying tattoo blogs, but I got so inspired after posting that last one that I went to work on perfecting it.
I LOVE WHAT I CAME UP WITH.
P.S. Thanks for those who commented.
In the ones with the "Momento Vivere" I was messing around with adding a dandelion to it... Just a thought.
YOU LIKE??
Again, for all those reading that may be shaking their head saying "don't do it Hannah" drawing these out does not mean I am going to get it...
I simply got inspired.
<3
Have a good night!!

Here it is folks. Tattoo Idea numba' two.
This one isn't my favorite one that I've drawn... But, it's the only one I took a picture of.
Clever right guys??
Because I am from a farm... so, the heart beet (like HEARTBEAT) can symbolize love or/and rooted veggies...
and remember your "roots", like my family, farm, home, veggies, values and morals.
WOW.
I don't know where or when I though of the idea...
But I'm really digging it at the moment.
Get it??
"Digging" it
hahaha
I crack myself up.
Tell me what you think.
Or don't.
I'm pretty sure I'll like it no matter what.
Ideas on where a cool place would be to get it?
Tatoo Inspiration
I have taken up drawing my newest and most awesome tattoo idea in class.
I am in love with it.
I am going to post a picture as soon as I get home... but for now, here are some great and interesting tattoo inspirations that I am currently obsessed with.
(No, these ideas DO NOT mean I will be permanently attaching them to my skin, but they are pretty to look at and draw.)
I understand that a lot of people have big problems with tattoos and think they are trashy...
(See my first tattoo)
(Not saying that the tattoo it's self is trashy, I'm saying that most of my family think tattoos are trash)
(See my first tattoo)
(Not saying that the tattoo it's self is trashy, I'm saying that most of my family think tattoos are trash)
And for the most part, I agree, but there are some that really connect with me.
So, for those who I am offending by posting this... #sorryimnotsorry
LOVE YOU!
Oh and I got all of these pictures from Pinterest if you are interested in checking them out...

What Makes A Good Blog?
I have been obsessing over my usual blogs this week and wondering what makes a good blog good.
it took me a while, but I finally found the recipe for a
wonderful-fantastical-read-every-day-I-want-to-be-just-like-you blog.
Or at least for me.
Here it is the HOW TO on all things blogs: What you will need to write a successful blog.
By Hannah Muller.
1. Babies.
Babies are cute. Babies do cute things. Babies do a thousand cute and horrible things a day so there is always something to write about. Babies are chubby and don't mind if you take their picture. Because of the small problems and fact that I don't currently have a baby.. and don't plan on pushing one out of my vag (see old post) anytime soon, I think my only hope is to steal one.
2. Harry Potter References
Everyone loves a good HP reference, anddd the fans of Harry Potter are wild and crazy. So, just add in a few key words that Harry Potter fans search in their google search engine and you will be golden on readers and they will keep coming back for more.
3. Romance.
Everyone likes a good love story. If you have one to share, share it. If not... make one up.
4. Wit.
As my roommate likes to say, good wit is hard to come by these days.
If you can write a blog in a short and snappy way that makes people ponder their lives as well as pee their pants because they are laughing so hard... You are doing well my friend keep it up.
5. Fashion.
Okay, okay, so this isn't for everrryyy blog but the blogs that I like to read have some pretty fun lookin outfits and wonderfully dressed ladies. I have attempted this a few times... all with horrible endings.
6. Short and to the point.
No one likes to read essays. Especially when they aren't funny, but even the funniest of essays drag on after a while. Keep it snappy, even if you have a whole lot more to say on the matter... truth is? No one really cares.
7. Pictures.
Pictures are a serious must. A lot of pictures. Fun pictures that have to do with your life. Pictures, pictures, pictures. Upload. Now.
8. Some sort of theme that ties the whole thing together.
It's not enough just to write about your life. Anyone can do that. So not everyone is going to read it. I still haven't really gotten the hang of it, but my Day-sperations have helped. And keeping the focus on things you know well. For me it's farming. And complaining.
9. Details.
If you are going to talk about your life (which you should all do) Be detailed. Tell stories. Tell secrets. It bonds the readers to you. No one wants to sit through a boring overview of what happened to you today... except maybe your boyfriend (see # 3) So make it interesting. If nothing fun happened to you that day, talk about a time in your life when something fun DID happen. Use descriptive words and images to make the reader feel like they were right there with you.
10. A good blog lay out.
I am still experimenting with mine, continuing to change parts that seem too wacky, colors, blog titles and such. I have been on MANY blogs where the layout was extremely confusing so I didn't feel like reading further. Make sure it catches the eye and still stays true to you!
Well future or current bloggers...
Good luck!
It's such a fun feeling when you see your viewers numbers start to climb...
I can not wait to continue blogging!
It's something I look forward to each day!
Birthday!
My birthday is in less than two weeks.
I am turning twenty.
This is supposed to make me feel like a grown up.
Instead
I feel more childish each day.
I like dancing in my room just as much as I did when I was seven.
I run from my worries like I did when I was twelve.
I blush when a guy talks to me, even more than when I was fifteen.
I jumble up my words when I get flustered like I am still in kindergarten.
I haven't learned much more about math than what I was taught in eight grade.
I still can't spell to save my life, just as I was in third grade.
soooo my question for you...
When will I feel like a grown up?
Because to me...
Even my face looks the same year after year.
Anyway, I have a few things on my birthday list that I would like this year, and because putting my Christmas list up on the interweb worked in my favor I am doing it again...
.
.
NOT THAT I AM EXPECTING ALL OF THESE THINGS.
1. A sleeping bag.
2. A Henry David Thoreau book.
3. To come home the weekend after my birthday with the nonboyfriendboyfriend.
4. Chocolate.
5. To have the best of time on my Walk-About this spring.
6. To spend more time with my roommates before I leave.
7. To travel with my besties this summer.
8. To have my sister come and visit me before I leave.
9. A kiss from a very handsome boy. (I've got one in mind.)
10. Some fun arts and crafts pens and paper.
and one for good luck?
11. To pass my math class.
That's it. Happy early birthday to me.

It's been too long... Weddings.
Well, you know by now that I am seriously obsessed with all things weddings.
To the point where I sometimes find myself planning peoples wedding's who aren't even in relationships yet...
Well, one of my friends from home just informed me that she has been reading my blog as a distraction from the real world, (Don't we all?) and she wants me to plan her wedding.
Now, I think she may have been talking about... you know, down the road a bit, maybe in a few years or at least wait until she is in a serious relationship, but I took that to mean, NOW.
So, here it is, the start of another fabulous country wedding...
Or at least some fun ideas.

Sun, Sun, Mr. Golden Sun.
I have had the perfect day.
Complete with a sunshine-filled afternoon, a nap, people watching and dancing around my room.
It doesn't get much better than that.
Especially when your college looks like this when it's sunny.
(Note, these pictures are not from today, but from of my happiest sunny college experiences)
These pictures are the epitome of happiness.

Keep this up weather gods.

My weekend with Bill, my N-B.B and his parents.
Long title for a long (yet wonderful) weekend.
Yesterday I went to see Bill Cosby with my non-boyfriend boyfriend and his parents.
They had gotten him tickets to see the show for Christmas and because he would rather DIE than go anywhere without me, I became his plus one.
tehehe
When he came over to my apartment before the show I was kinda well, freaking out. Big time.
To put it bluntly.
I don't know if I was nervous for "the meeting of the parents", or if it was just another one of "those days" but I could not pick an outfit for the life of me.
And it didn't help that my Non-boyfriend boyfriend kept telling me I would look fine in anything I picked out, but to please hurry.
NOTE TO GUYS- DON'T EVER SAY THAT TO A GIRL WHEN SHE IS MEETING YOUR PARENTS FOR THE FIRST TIME.
There is a right and wrong outfit.
And to pick the wrong one in her mind would be disastrous.
Well, as it turned out what I wore was fine, no one seemed to notice much anyway.
Maybe that's a good thing.
Who knows.
All I DO know is that Bill Cosby still has it.
Even in his old age, he's one funny guy.
I love the fact that comedians get paid to sit on a stage for two hours and talk about their lives.
They really got it figured out.
Next
We went out to eat at a fancy-pancy restaurant and watched two men get incredibly intoxicated.
First they knocked a wine glass full of wine to the floor as they reached for each other across the table.
(Then one stood up to leave and tripped and feel on his chair and hit the floor. HARD.)
It was one of the saddest/wackiest things I have seen in a while.
meanwhile..
The parents were sweet.
Son is just like Father.
Mother and I bonded over some cute/embarrassing stories of the Son.
Food is delicious.
Then we went back to my apartment had the perfect evening all to ourselves that included wine, Break the Safe, (which is an incredible board game that every couple should purchase) coming up with our own drinking games that included the pieces from Break the Safe and drawing on each other with markers.
I drew a pretty RAD heart radish that couldn't be topped.
Overall, I would call that Saturday evening one of the better ones I've had in a while.
Now off to do homework and boring stuff.
Oh wait, whats that I hear? You want to see a picture?
| Here he is guys and gals the one, the only... Non-boyfriend boyfriend! |
Isn't he cute??????

I Miss This.

I think I'll keep him.
Soooo.
You all know Mr. Exclusive by now right?
Well, I'm thinking of changing his name to Mr. ExCUTEive.
Because he's pretty cute.
And he does some awesomely and obnoxiously cute things.
Things that, if happening to anyone else I might exclaim 'AWWWW', Or 'Gross!'. Depending on my current mush tolerance level.
These days my tolerance level is at an all time high.
Want a list and some pictures of a few reasons why I'll keep him around?
1. He buys me flower. Yellow ones, because he knows I like them.
2. He changed my laptop background when I was gone.
(It's a picture of him, I would post it here, but I doubt that he would like that very much...)
3. He makes me food. Enough said.
4. He rubs my tummy when I'm not feeling good.
5. He dresses up my stuffed bear and leaves little notes behind.
(Although he claims that it was the bears idea.)
6. He's taking me to see Bill Cosby. Actually, his parents are.
GUYS DID YOU HEAR THAT?? I AM GOING TO MEET HIS PARENTS THIS WEEKEND!
7. He calls and actually leaves messages.
(That all start with "Hey you." Which kind of creeps me out, but don't tell him that.)
8. He hangs up score cards from when he beats me...
(Okay, I could MAYBE do without this one.)
9. This morning he told me I shouldn't go to class, I should say that I got caught in Devils Snare without my wand.
Uhhhh, hello?? HP Reference while snuggling?? I almost dropped out of school altogether.
10. He hasn't gotten sick of me yet.
Pretty impressive in its self.
Okay, enough mush for one night...
On a more serious note, I have a LOT of homework to do.
